Govt. Degree College Bijbehara was established in 2005 and started its functioning from the academic session 2006-2007. the College has a vast catchment area spanning over four districts namely Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian. Starting with a small enrollment of just 41 students in 2006-2007, the College has witnessed a huge surge in the enrollment reaching upto more than 2200 in the previous year. Students from various localities throng to this newly established college where they find fresh and invigorating environment free from pollution and highly conducive to teaching-learning process. It has got Science and Arts Streams with fully equipped Science laboratories and vibrant physical education department. The NSS and NCC also play their active part in honing the talent of incoming students and metamorphosing them into able and capable citizens of the society. Most departments have regular teaching faculty serving the students community and incase any department lacks in the permanent faculty, a good number of academically competent candidates are engaged by the Higher Education Department on contractual basis to compensate the deficiency so that the academic arena is abuzz with useful teaching-learning activities. Owing to growing enrolment of students , the existing physical infrastructure of the College needs considerable augmentation for which proposals are being sent to the Administrative Department which hopefully shall be considered on merits. These include additional class room block, Library cum Reading room block, Canteen & Lavatory block for boys and girls.  Notwithstanding this, the College does have so many alluring things to its credit which definitely attract the young buds to this seat of learning. There is a large sports ground spanning over more than a hundred kanals of land, adjacent to the main block. We have a grand auditorium with a large seating capacity, two computer laboratories, a splendid Library Cum Reading room, a number of airy and open lecture halls and a few pre-fabricated huts serving as class rooms. There is a vast area in the basement where parking facility for vehicles is available. It is heartening to state that very soon the College will shift the canteen in one of the newly constructed wooden huts and provide diverse kinds of services to the students including tea, bakery items, various beverages and other Stationery items. In spite of all this, the College is ever vigilant to grab every opportunity whereby new and novel facilities will be procured and consequently made available to the student community.
